Many people usually underestimate how a simple side dish like Creamy Garlic Mashed Potatoes can quickly elevate the taste of a dish. Growing up, mashed potatoes have been our go-to side dish, light snack.. basically a staple dish in our household!
While many a times we get to eat mashed potatoes at fast food chains, it is finally clear to us that making mash potatoes is one of the simplest (therapeutic too!) for us.
How long should I boil potatoes?
As the recipe recommends cutting the potatoes into smaller portions, this will speed up the cooking process and we’d recommend boiling for about 15 to 20 minutes to achieve soft cooked potatoes that can easily be mashed.
Is milk or cream better for mashed potatoes?
There are various ways to make mash potatoes creamy and that is to add milk/cream on top of butter. While our recipe calls for “keeping things simple”, adding milk or cream helps to thicken the mash based on how you’d like it.
Do I need to peel the potatoes to make mashed potatoes?
Yes! By peeling the potatoes first, it gets easier after that when you want to mash the potatoes after boiling.
Should you melt butter for mashed potatoes?
As we want to incorporate that buttery texture to the mashed potatoes, melting butter will then separate the fats from the milk solids of the butter. When this happens, the mashed potatoes may end up with an oily finishing – which we want to avoid!
