Meet TWP family

Welcome to The Working Pan! Here, my husband and I aspire to share with all working peeps simple ways to whip up delicious meals in a few simple steps!

Welcome to the working pan!

We are so grateful you’re here!

We started this blog because of a common frustration: Takeout Fatigue. Like many of you, when working from home became the norm, my husband and I fell into the “convenience trap.” We ordered delivery so often that we forgot the joy of a home-cooked meal. Our kitchen turned into a storage room for takeout containers.

The Working Pan came from our desire to reclaim the kitchen without spending hours cooking. My cooking philosophy is simple: Authentic Malay and Asian flavours made easy for the busy modern cook. Growing up, my kitchen was filled with the smell of my mother’s sambal and the sound of a sizzling wok. Now, I’m sharing those family recipes—like my 3-ingredient Crispy Ayam Goreng—and modern Asian-fusion favourites that fit into a hectic workday. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced home cook looking for a shortcut, I’m here to show you that a “Working Pan” is a happy one!

FAQ

To get started, I always recommend having turmeric powder (also known as kunyit), kicap manis (sweet soy sauce), and a good shrimp paste (belacan). Most of my recipes, like my Sweet and Sour Fish, rely on these to get that authentic depth of flavour.

Absolutely! The “Working” in The Working Pan stands for efficiency. We focus on techniques that maximise flavour in less time such as using high-quality stock cubes or 3-ingredient marinades that don’t sacrifice that “taste of home.”

Yes! Most of my Asian-fusion dishes are very flexible. If a recipe calls for a specific protein and you prefer a veggie option, my “Search by Ingredient” feature will help you find the best way to pivot or you can substitute with your choice of meat or veggie 🙂

While I love a traditional wok for stir-fry noodles, a high-quality non-stick frying pan is my daily driver. It’s versatile enough for Roti Kirai and easy to clean – perfect for busy weeknights!
