Why we LOVE lasagna?

My husband and I have always been fans of classic Italian dishes, especially after a good binge watch on television. Inspiration to make the recipe simpler is always our goal!

Another great thing about making beef lasagna is that you can simply keep the leftovers for the next day. Just reheat it on the next day, and it is good to eat!

Beef lasagna ingredients

  • Pasta: Of course from the name itself, you know we are going to use lasagna for this dish!
  • Meat: Minced beef is the way to go! Fresh or frozen, this doesn’t matter at all. What we want is the flavourful beef oil that you get after cooking the beef.
  • Sauce: I like to use the traditional Bolognese or marinara for the sauce.
  • Cheese: I am a huge fan of mozzarella cheese due to its ability to stretch once cooked, giving that delicious gooey pull with the lasagna.
  • Vegetable: I recommend going with baby spinach because it easily absorbs the moisture of the lasagna sauce without being too soggy.
  • Sugar: Yes, you heard me right! I like to add a tablespoon of fine sugar into the sauce to mellow down the tangy taste but still keep the rich flavour.

How to make beef lasagna?

  1. Preheat the oven at 180°C.
  2. Cook the lasagna pasta: Yes, you heard me right. I’ve tried using dried lasagna and personally prefer to have the pasta boiled for 5 minutes.
  3. Prepare the sauce: Cook the sauce for about 5 minutes after adding 1 tablespoon of fine sugar.
  4. Cook the meat: Add the minced beef into the sauce and cook for a good 10 minutes.
  5. Lasagna is ready to assemble! Assemble them in the aluminium pan, ceramic or just any flat baking dish (205l x 205h x 48w mm) for that matter in the order of: Pasta > Sauce> Mozzarella and repeat the order of assembly until you have at least 4 layers. The layer should end with mozzarella cheese.
    • Lasagna: I like to have a layer of pasta at the bottom as well so that you don’t lose too much of the sauce when baking
    • Cooked sauce and beef
    • Baby spinach
    • Mozzarella cheese

FAQs about Beef Lasagne

In our opinion, lasagna has always been a popular traditional Italian dish for its simplicity in making with an exquisite taste. Apart from that, lasagna is one of the dishes we intentionally make more to keep for leftovers because they eventually taste better the next day!

After making countless beef lasagna in the kitchen, we definitely have experienced this before. Although the directions on the pasta packaging is to use the lasagna dry, we feel that it is not able to absorb the moisture of the sauce when baking. Thus, we highly recommend boiling the lasagna pasta for at least 5 minutes or so.

It is pretty much up to your preference but as we’ve said, we find that the pasta absorbs the sauce so much better if boiled.
